Traditional Indian Clothing

The traditional Indian clothing is well known for its colorfulness, interesting designs and grace. In fact people from other part of the world are equally fascinated by the beauty of the clothing of india. One of the most interesting things about the traditional Indian clothing is that it varies to a great extend depending on the region, religion and community.

The Indian dresses are immensely popular all over the world and thanks to globalization which has made it possible for everyone to buy clothes from India easily. Majority of you out there will agree that no matter what fashions comes and goes the trend of wearing beautiful saree, salwar kameez and lehenga choli never really goes out of fashion.

Saree is one of the most popular types of traditional Indian dresses in addition to salwar kameez and Lehenga Sarees. This Indian traditional dress is most widely and commonly used attire for ladies irrespective of their age group. Indian sarees are perfect for both formal as well as informal events.

One of the interesting things is that there are various different types of Indian sarees that are worn by women from different region, religion and community.

For instance the sarees which are worn by the women in West Bengal is much different from that worn in Gujarat or Maharashtra but they are all unique and equally beautiful. Another interesting aspect of wearing saree is that it suits well for every woman irrespective of their age body size or body shape.

Salwar kameez is more popular in the northern part of the India and is also commonly known as ‘Punjabi suit’. Even though salwar kameez originated in the northern India but it soon spread to other parts of India. This attire is basically made of a long tunic known as kameez and loose pants type of trouser which is known as salwar.

Normally the length of the kameez varies depending on the personal preference or latest fashion. It can be stitched with any kind of fabric, such as silk, cotton, chiffon, georgette, satin, etc. Depending on the personal preference, it can be kept simple or heavily embroidered. Salwar kameez is a very comfortable and practical outfit for everyday use.

The ghaghra cholis are another type of traditional Indian dress for women. Even though it originated in the western part of India but soon became popular in other parts of the county. Ghaghara is basically a long pleated skirt which is worn along with fitted blouse which can either be short or long in length.

These days there are endless varieties of Ghaghara cholis but its price varies depending on the kind fabric and the accessories added to it. Both the salwar kameez as well as the traditional lehenga cholis are worn along with the dupatta (scarf) which is a rectangular cloth used to cover the chest and the head section.

Unlike earlier, when women use to wear this costume on daily basis, these days it is the favorite costume for Indian women when it comes to wearing traditional Indian clothing at special occasions such as in weddings as a bride or guest.
