1920 womens fashion spells fun, bright colours and it is a fashion evolution.
In the 1920s, social changes of the era gave birth to a new type of woman, it is the decade in which fashion entered the modern era. In fact this was the period when fashion became less formal and one of the biggest happening of the 1920's was the worship of youth.
In other words we can say that fashion was incredibly modernized by the year 1920s. During this period 1920 womens fashion changed drastically and it was the reflection of their growing freedom and individualism.
The women’s fashion typically featured brighter and more vibrant colours in comparison to the fashions from the previous decades.
It was during this period that women first liberated themselves from constricting fashions and began to wear more comfortable clothes like short skirts , trousers etc.
The flapper dresses are a symbol of that era. The women’s clothes were more in fitted style before flapper dresses. They use to wear heavy corsets to create an hour-glass shape.
The classic flapper dresses flatters many body types with a drop waist and loose fit. Even the sleeveless dresses were introduced during this time and became very popular almost immediately.
The flapper dresses
style starts with spaghetti, thin, or wide straps and its bodice is like a tube, straight and short.
Its hemline shows off long legs, with hems ending inches above the knee. It boldly expressed the youthful defiance of the traditional clothing of the previous era.
The main attraction of this kind of dress is that it is lightweight, made of breathable fabric with rows of flowing fringe. The flapper dresses are popular even today and we can increasingly see the case for a revival of 1920 womens fashion or at least elements of it.
During this period the legs became an asset and showed through the kind of clothing worn. Hemlines rose and women began to take lot of interest in flesh-coloured stockings and beautiful footwear. The silk stockings were accompanied along with the evening wear. In fact the footwear and stockings became the focus of more attention as fashion items in 1920s womens fashion world.
Even the women’s undergarments experienced a revolutionary change during the 1920s. In fact the modern style of bra was first introduced in the 1920's and it gained immense popularity very fast.
Lots of bright colours, simpler designs, beads, new synthetic materials like Rayon, new cuts and styling were incorporated in dresses made from considerably less yards of material were used in comparison to what was used previously.
Overall the new light weight and less restrictive fashions, especially undergarments, made it easier for women to get involved in various kinds of physical activities such as sports, new type of dances and even driving vehicles.
For 1920s hairstyles the women also adopted a more boyish fashion sense, with short, bob cut hairstyles.
A more masculine look became popular, including flattened breasts and hips. And the fashion conscious, young and liberated women of the 1920's who could express themselves in creative new ways were known as flappers.
